After a summer job bottling whisky as a lad, Graeme Macaloney fell in love with whisky-making and set out to make a living doing so on his own. After Studying the Irish pot still process of making whiskey and gleaning information on the maturation process from the renowned Dr. Jim Swan, Macaloney founded his distillery on Vancouver Island in Canada.
To this day Victoria’s Caledonian Distillery operates alongside its brother, Twa Dogs Brewery, crafting whiskies with the finest tools and ingredients available. Macaloney’s Caledonian Peated Darach Braiche Island Single Malt spirit is a young, peated malt matured in ex-bourbon casks for just under 3 years. With a beautiful natural color from a non-chill filtration process, Peated Darach won “World’s Best New Make” at the 2020 World Whiskies Awards.
The nose is bright with lemon merengue citrus and tropical fruits balanced with strong peated and smoky notes. The palate offers another dose of lemon and peat smoke layered with peppery notes alongside vanilla and honey. The Whiskey finish is medium with a malty sharpness and a touch of cayenne at the end.
